VIII. How to set up a race for N2003: For Admins Only

_____________________________________________________________________________

I. Setup and Configure the rsClient

Download the Client off the rsClient download page.  Be sure your Windows OS is up to date or it may want you to update your files. Also download the client to the drive you have the OS on, you can move it after that.

1. Download the rsClient to a temporary folder, not to your desktop and not to documents, Unzip the files.  Check rsClient download page for detailed instructions, if new to downloading.

 2. Run the setup by double clicking on Setup.exe

 3. Once setup is complete, click Start Button in Windows, Click Programs, Find small rsClient 10.x.x version of the software, click on the rsClient  program and it will bring up the screen that you will need to setup your rsClient.

Configure with your information in the rsConfiguration

 4.  Enter your RaceServers.net DriverID (This should match either your Sierra Id if running in Sierra arena or the Player info ID in the game, if running in rsArena).

5.  Enter your RaceServers.net Account Number # (This is what your admin emailed you when you applied). Enter your RaceServers.net Act. Code. (This was also emailed to you.) If you did not receive the above numbers, please contact your league admin with your user ID.

6.  Click on the Sim Path N 2003-Path: Actually click on the box where info goes, do not type in this, but click on it.) (Our rsClient does not search your hard drive for any information so you will have to put in your path to the games you use.)

 7.  That brings an open file dialog box, look at the Files of type: It will tell you what it is looking for. See the two pictures below.

 8.  For each game your plan to run, NR2003, NR2005 and GTP. Click on the folders that are appropriate for the Sim you are setting up.

9.  Locate the exe.  click on it to select it, then click open. Do this for each Sim you want the rsClient to support.

10.  Your paths may be different, but your  screen should look something like the screen below. If the sim path is not filled in the Join Selected Race button for that Sim will not light up. You can skip to number 13, if not doing GTP mod. See next picture on how to select the path to the game. Once all your info is in, be sure to click the SAVE button before the Done Button.

For Drivers not doing GTP Skip to number 13 below

FOR THE DRIVERS THAT PLAN TO USE GTP MOD,THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR YOU

12. The rsClient includes the GTP MOD.   The GTP mod only works in the rsClient since it does not reside in Sierra.  It also can be used for RealRacing Virtual money events and to encourage drivers to stay in the road events each lap they complete will earn them money once we complete the programming for the money events for this mod.

Now, because GTP mod is not supported by Sierra, but is based off the NR2003 game, here is what drivers need to do in order to run it.

A.  Download GTP, we have a link on our Downloads page under the MODS.

B.  Next, before attempting to install the GTP mod, make a copy of your current NR2003 folder.

C.  Rename that copy:  Current name of folder and add _GTP  (behind its current name)

D.  Run the install that you just downloaded of GTP, when it asks where to install it.> Point it at the copy you had just made.

E.  Be sure to read the README file that is provided with the GTP download.

F. If you only have NR2003 path installed, you will need to edit your rsClient configuration, under the Commands button in the upper left corner.

G. Add the GTP mod path the same way you added the NR2003 path by editing, then click on the box for the path and select the GTP mod path. Be sure to SAVE before hitting the Done Button.

To MAKE all of your tracks for NR2003 compatible for the GTP mod, OPEN the track manager at the top of the rsClient by clicking  on TRACK Manager at the top of the latest rsClient.  If this is the first time that you have use the track manager, it will take several minutes for the track manager to build all of your available tracks and update the tracks for GTP. So go get a cup of coffee, and come back later, please be patient as depending on the speed of your machine, the track update and synchronization could take up to or more than 20 minutes. Please note: Once you have used the Track Manager, if you add any new tracks, add them to the Available tracks folder under Program Files and then rsClient, and then Available tracks, not your regular track folder or you may get an error when you update for GTP.

13. Once you have all your information in, Click the Save Button. (Be sure to save before hitting the Done Button.)

14. Click the Done Button.

15. Next:  You need to restart the Client.

16Restart the client, Give the new client time to grab its new address, so wait , if you have entered everything properly, you should have a screen similar to the one below.

FOR DRIVERS PLEASE NOTE: (For the OPEN PICKUP SERVERS in NR2003 just click on the server on the grid when it turns green, click on the join race button.  First person in the pickup server is the boss and can setup race.)

II.   How to join a Race

1.    From the server grid list, click on the server you would like to join. If server is in practice you should be able to join it as it should highlight in green and the Join Race Button should highlight to green as well.

2.    In the client you can scroll over to see what arena your server is in, (rsArena or Sierra arena) if your server is in the rsArena the pw column will show if it is pass worded.  If it is in the Sierra Arena, the column for pw will not show if it is pass worded.

3.    If the race is in the rsArena, you may see if it is passworded and if will also show if A-CDM is on and the level of A-CDM on by looking at the columns of PW and A-CDM

4.    Once your server is highlighted and your Join Selected Race Button is Green you can now click that button to join that server.  If there is a password for your server, type it in and click the Okay Button.  If your server has no password you will go in without a pw. The rsClient will take you into the server and it will select the correct mod for you if you have that mod on your machine.

5.    If your server is in Sierra, and you click the JOIN RACE BUTTON and put in the server pw, it will take you to the main menu, select multiplayer, then enter mutilplayer arena.  It will take you into your server, if Sierra is operating correctly.

IMPORTANT:  IF YOU CHOOSE TO JOIN A RACE THRU THE CLIENT, DO NOT MANUALLY START THE GAME. GIVE THE GAME TIME TO COME UP.   DO NOT ATTEMPT TO JOIN A RACE THRU THE CLIENT IF THE GAME IS ALREADY RUNNING ON YOUR COMPUTER.  Otherwise you may get a socket error because a program is started twice.

III.  Player Info in Game and rsDriver ID must match for Rankings

Please NOTE:  For DRIVERS running in the rsArena.   In NR2003, the only way to get your driver ID to match the output race results of the server since the game will go to your name  for IP races, you will need to leave your first name blank in the game software and put your driver ID in the last name. This has nothing to do with our software, rather the way the game operates,  it is the only way you will get the correct ranking under your ID if running IP. Otherwise it will rank under the name you put in the NR2003 game.  See Below:

IV.  Other Options and Explanations of info in rsClient

Starting with the  buttons in the Information Center near  the bottom right of rsClient

 A. JOIN RACE BUTTON:  To join a race, you have to click on server first to activate this button. Then click Join Selected Race Button to join the server.

 B.  VIEW SERVER INFORMATION BUTTON:  You can see drivers in a NR2003 IP server by clicking on the server and then clicking on the view server information button. This will give you a list of drivers in that server. See picture below.

C.  VIEW RANKINGS BUTTON:  Allows you to go to the rankings page at the Website

D. INFORMATION CENTER:  Gives you info on your ratings, money earned per series and   overall earnings, plus instructional information.

E. The rsArena, Race PW and A-CDM button is for admins and bosses of races.  See info for Admins only on this page on how that works.

 Information for Top of rsClient:

Commands:  This will have for drivers their rsClient Configuration and Update rsClient  info.  For Server admins it can also have their Server Manager and Member Manager info.

Refresh rsSever List:  This will update the status of the servers.

Refresh Driver Stats:  Will update your driver info, as virtual money, ratings, rankings

Track Manager and Mod Manager: These help manage all the tracks and mods to the game since there are more of those than the game will allow at one time.  More info on how that works is below on how to use these features.

Display Options:  Allows you to set the serve refresh rate.

Filter OptionsServers can be filtered by all league servers or one particular league server, so that only those servers will show in the client that you want to see. For example: If you choose Lone Wolf server, by clicking it, and then hit the Refresh rsServer List, you would see only the Lone Wolf server in the rsClient.

Chat: Allows you to select automatically coming into chat, or manually doing so.

Help:  Gives you the ability to go straight to the HOW DO I page at the website and also reset your registry settings.

V.  Track Manager

Since the game itself will only allow 128 tracks to show in the drop down list of the game. GTP only 99.  The rsClient helps drivers subtract and add the add-on tracks they have, just check the track you want to add or remove, then hit the button to remove the track or add it.

You will need to run the Track Manager at the top center of the client.  The first time you do this it will take quite awhile, so give yourself some time to run that. Please note: Once you have used the Track Manager, if you add any new tracks, add them to the Available tracks folder in your rsClient not your regular track folder. After that you can switch them to your track folder using the track manager.

VI. Mod Manager

Just as the tracks have become too large for the game to hold all of them, the game also limits how many mods you can have in it. For this reason we created a mod manger that you can easily switch your mods in and out. This new button is located at the top next to your track manager.

Once you have used the Mod Manager, if you add any new mods, add them to the Available Mod folder under Program Files and then rsClient, and then Available mods, not your Papyrus series folder. Please note: Mods will work in NR2003 and NR2005. So you need to select the game you want mods to be in by checking the appropriate game type.

VII. Voice Chat Ability

Voice Chat:  We are currently testing a chat to see if leagues will want a feature like this to utilize for their own league chat room.  When you downloaded the latest client this chat capability comes with it.  Just run the setup exe for it.

You will need the IP address and Port for each chat room along with the password.  For general chat connection, email RaceServers for that info.

Click the Connect to Chat button.

To setup voice chat, click on box circled above.

If IP and port are not provided, you will need to get that, especially if its a specific league.  Fill in info then hit okay. Rs general voice chat is available for all members to try out.

You will need a password for whatever chat room your league has. So you may need to check with your admin or cj.baker@Raceservers.net for that information.  Let us know how it is working for those that are testing this feature.  We need your feedback in order to know if this is something leagues would like to have.

Voice chat has the option of running it during the race.  For some drivers this works well depending on their connection. You can select this option under Chat.

VIII. How to set up a race for N2003: For Admins Only

Most races if the ACDM level is setup by the Server Manager everyday, then all you need to do as admin is join your server by clicking on it and typing your racepassword/bosspassword. Then you can setup race.  Drivers join by just typing in the race password, if there is one.

1.  Never change your password from inside the server, also be sure everyone is out of the server by clicking the ReFresh rsServer List at top right of rsClient.

2.  For League Servers in the rsArena, you will see a button labeled Set rsArena PW and A-CDM for setting up races near the bottom left, especially necessary for those that use the Active Cheat Detection if your server was not setup automatically with cheat detection through the server manager. OR if you need to change the PW.

1.You will need to select your server from the drop down list if it is set up for rsArena, (If your server does not show in this list and it is an rsArena server, be sure no one is in it or it will not show in the list or be sure you refreshed your server list before clicking the Setup rsArena PW and A-CDM button.)

  2. Once you select your server from the drop down list, next type the boss pw in the password area.

3.You will see the rsArena A-CDM Setting become available.  Choose if you want Active Cheat detection and the level.

(All three levels look for cheats, however; the higher levels are to warn drivers of too many programs running that may take up their computer resources.  So the higher the level, the better the connections will be for drivers, as it will help them eliminate programs that can be hogging bandwidth. So the high level is for better connections.)

4.Now type in the race pw you intend to have for the race in the box next to the words set rsArena Pw.  Once you have the password in, or if you want it to be an open race, leave it empty.

5.Now click the button that says:  Set rsArena PW

6.Click finish and then refresh your server list till you see that your server has the pw set and your A-CDM level.

Special Note:  The rsReal Racing box will be for setting up racing events that will involve virtual money for events starting with IROC and working one's way up to Cup etc.  Money is made and loss due to cost of repairs and finishes. See number 13 below for Real Racing Races. All real Racing Money events will show the server in a Aqua color.  Iroc has no entry fee, all others have an entry fee.

7.Next, join your server like you did as the boss, by putting the boss pw in when asked for password. /bosspw  or racepw/bosspw if you have a race pw. If you need to be admin, you need to set yourself up as admin from within the race after coming in as boss.  Check the READ Me file in the game on how to do that.

8.Now you can setup the race within the game.  The Active-cdm will stay in place as long as you don’t change the password from within the game, but you should be able to change and setup anything else from within the game, just like you did in Sierra.

9.This is only necessary if making changes to server in the same day.

10.The drivers all join the normal way by clicking on the server on the grid and hitting the join race button.

11.  Active-CDM works much like a bug zapper, if it catches anyone using a cheat, it will eject them from the race and it will post a message in the server to all others in race that you were ejected by A-CDM.

12.  For excessive programs, depending on the level set, drivers are warned of too many programs running which affect their connections, so this is a different message.

13.For setting up Real Racing races you will need to check the box labeled rsReal Racing, it will automatically set the A-CDM to High, but you can change it to low or med.  All Real Racing events must have A-CDM on.  Be sure to click the set Race pw button even for no pass worded races. A server setup for real racing will be an aqua color in the client, see picture below. All real racing events need 10 drivers for money payouts to occur for drivers. The money each driver earns can be viewed in the upper right hand corner of the client by selecting the Display Options button and then Status and Real Racing.

Admins, please be advised: If you setup and run a non-real racing event and at the conclusion of that event, you change the server to be a real racing event server, the previous non-real racing race could be recorded as a real racing event and any drivers that retired or incurred any real racing monetary penalties will have those penalties deducted from their accounts.  The best way to insure that the server has scored any event is for the admin to check the rankings page to insure that the race was ranked. Be sure if you switch your server from a real racing event to a non-real racing event or vice versa in the same day, that you wait 15 mins between the races so that the previous race will score properly for real racing races or non real racing; as that info has to record in the database under the correct event type.

ADMINS OF RACES:  Please note: In order to make sure a good race results file is created for a race.  Do not skip Qualifying or Happy Hour and also allow server to go to the winners circle at the end of the race.  By short cutting any of these things can cause the game to now have enough time to create the information for proper race results, especially if you have a lot of drivers in the server.

Glitch in Game:  Be aware that the game sometimes can crash due to losing info on location of drivers when coming to Start/Finish Line.  This tends to happen at the smaller tracks  more often then the larger tracks. However; it can occur at any track with the right circumstances occurring on the track or in the pits.
